WinFF:
The easiest to use and most efficient cross-platform batch video
converter software
website: winff.org
Converting
videos at times can be annoying to end users for many reasons.
Frequently this question is asked: What is a free video converter
that doesn't suck?
WinFF
is
an easy to use converter that support just about every video
formats and gets the job done quickly. If you are looking for a
way to quickly convert many videos to make them compatible with
your specific portable media player this is the answer.
WinFF
is essentially a graphical interface for “FFmpeg”
and is available for Windows and various Linux distributions.
WinFF comes with a large amount of presets for many devices,
therefor you do not have to manually input things such as
resolution, bitrates, etc. Just
add any videos, select the preset you want, then click Convert.

WinFF
preloaded presets: Apple:
iPhone & iPod, QuickTime (h.264 & MOV) Audio: AC3,
MP3, MP4, OGG, WAV, WMA AVI: MS Compatible AVI, XviD Blackberry
Curve, Blackberry Music and Video Creative Zen Raw DV DVD

Chocolate Microsoft: Powerpoint, WMV for Web, WMV2 Generic,
Xbox 360, Zune Mobile Phones: 3GPP (h.263 & h.264), 3GPP
audio, MP3 mono MPEG-4 (MP4, h.264) Neuros OSD Nokia:

H300, Sansa e200, Toshiba Gigabeat F/X Sony: PS3 720p, PSP,
“Walkman” series Tuna-vIDS VCD (NTSC & PAL) Or go
to “Edit → Presets” to edit existing presets or add your
own.
Note
about converting videos to specific bitrates With
WinFF, the preset for each setting control the average bitrate of
the output video. Although enabling the “Options” button will
allow users to specify the video's bitrate and other attributes,
it generally do not work and require the user to edit the command
line of each specific presets. To do this, go to “Edit ->
Presets”, then click “Add/Update” to save the change.
Although if you are unsure of how to edit the the ffmpeg command
lines, it is better to leave the settings alone in case they get
corrupted.
Hints *If
you have a multicore CPU, it is highly recommended to go into
WinFF's Preferences and enable “Multithreading for Dual Core
Processors”.
*Another good software for high quality
videos conversion, yet with easy to understand interface is
AutoMen.
*For
more advance video converting (that require extra options,
filterings, subtitles, etc) I use
Avidemux
which
is an excellent converter and editor with many features. My
favorite converter remains StaxRip
for
the purpose of high quality x264 compressioning.
